RODENTS AND SLUGS – A DEADLY MIX
‘RAT LUNGWORM DISEASE’
CASES
In late March of 2011 a 10 month old girl on the north side of Sydney became lethargic and could not sleep. A week later she was in intensive care and she died around Easter. The doctors had no idea of the cause until the autopsy was released recently showing she had contracted rat lungworm from an infected slug, most probably from crawling across its trail.
Glueboards for Rodents in Tasmania
"Glueboard trap" means a device that uses an adhesive substance to entrap an animal.
Glue traps are made from natural or synthetic adhesive applied to cardboard or similar material. Bait can be placed in the center or a scent may be added to the adhesive. Glue board traps are used primarily for rodent control indoors.
Below is the section (high lighted) of the Animal Welfare Act 1993 in Tasmania that pertains to the use of Glueboards for Rodent Management.
